Employer description
Company Description
Property intelligence is reshaping how the world understands the built environment, and Nearmap is driving that. Our technology turns property uncertainty into decisive action, and our culture brings out the best in the people who build it.
Job Description
This is a newly created role and your chance to shape platform engineering as a discipline at Nearmap from the ground up. You'll lead the shift from a traditional DevOps model to platform-as-a-product, building the golden paths, self-service tools, and reusable components that let our engineering teams ship independently, safely, and fast.
Working within the Platform team, you'll design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability platforms our engineering teams rely on daily. You'll treat the platform as a product and engineering teams as your customers, owning initiatives end to end from design through to operation, and communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business.
Think a heavily customised Kubernetes implementation that teams self-serve from instead of waiting months for manual provisioning, or an alerting system that plugs straight into Slack instead of every team building their own bespoke tooling. That is the kind of platform thinking this role is about.
What you'll do
- Treat engineering teams as customers: gather requirements, triage platform requests, and feed recurring friction back into platform improvements
- Build self-service capabilities, golden paths, and reusable platform components that reduce ticket-driven work
- Design, build, and maintain platform tooling and automation across the software development lifecycle
- Use CI/CD platforms to automate infrastructure provisioning, builds, tests, and releases
- Write and deploy Infrastructure as Code using Terraform as the standard for all platform changes
- Maintain high availability of infrastructure and platform services, and improve monitoring and observability of production systems
- Implement security controls as code, including IAM least-privilege, secrets management, and container image scanning
- Influence and educate engineering teams on platform engineering practices and cloud infrastructure security
- Participate in design reviews and architecture decisions
About you
- You're an owner. You spot what's not working and fix it without waiting to be asked
- You welcome collaboration and bring a positive attitude to a fast-paced team
- You communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical people
- You're pragmatic, curious, and constantly improving your craft.
