The Supervisor, Custodial Services supervises custodial staff engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of university buildings and other related custodial services programs. May work with a special emphasis on after hours including evenings and weekends. Assures that assigned areas of campus facilities are orderly, safe from snow and ice hazards, and properly cleaned and maintained. May supervise the preparations of buildings for special events. Responsible for interviewing prospective employees and recommending the selection of qualified candidates. Responsible for properly training custodial staff. Reviews performance of staff and procedures to drive continued improvement. Expected to maintain a productive working relationship with faculty, students, staff, contractors and visitors to the university.
The hiring range for this position is $69.8k - $79.5k.
Schedule is Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM, this is a 35 hour work week.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises and directs custodians, including head custodians, in the effective cleaning and maintaining of university buildings, including preparing facilities for special events. Additionally, actively involved in interviewing and recommending prospective employees. Inspects buildings on a regular schedule. Coordinates overtime to ensure proper coverage. Coordinates with customers on all matters relating to services requested, by both in house staff and outside vendors and contractors. May communicate with other departmental supervisors and staff as necessary with regard to emergencies or other incidents that occur on the evening and weekend shifts.
- Assists in the development and implementation of work methods and procedures designed to achieve cost effective, efficient operations. Trains personnel in the performance of their prescribed duties. Participates in ongoing supervisory skill development and maintains up-to-date knowledge of technical and safety practices.
- Administers work orders for general repair/replacement e.g. furniture, bathrooms fixtures within the university buildings. May assist with campus wide scheduling and billing for moves and carpet cleaning.
- Monitors, orders, and distributes supplies and equipment to custodial staff.
- Prepare written reports and other correspondence as needed.
- May coordinate first response efforts to respond to emergencies, access situations, and coordinate crews in the process of clean up.
Additional Job Description:
- Drive a university vehicle.
- Work environment may be subject to temperature extremes of hot or cold.
- Job requires contact with abrasive cleaning chemicals/hazards.
- Requires proficiency in spoken and written English.
Education, Work Experience and Licenses:
- Education: High School diploma or GED required. BA/BS with technical training preferred.
- Work Experience: 5-8 years.
- Valid and current MA State driver's license required.
