Employer description
We are seeking a talented Optical HW Engineer to join our dynamic team, contributing to the design and development of cutting-edge coherent transceivers (DCO pluggables) and transponder line cards, plus integration and oDVT (optical design verification test).
You will design and integrate the optical path, define how it is tested, close performance gaps with cross-functional teams, and deliver release-quality optical results. You will turn requirements into optical design, test plans, and routines, debug across optics / DSP / firmware / card, and be the technical owner for your module or card drop.
NILightpath
Responsibilities
- Own optical design of the assigned coherent transceiver: architecture of the optical path, component selection, schematic ownership for optics, and review input to design updates.
- Integrate optical modules into coherent transceivers and transponder line cards, ensuring optical performance.
- Create technical documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports. Capture design issues found in the lab.
- Develop and implement test routines to evaluate key performance for coherent transceivers and transponder line cards.
- Compare results to spec and MSA/reference (OIF, OpenZR+, OpenROADM, ITU-T as applicable); drive closure with DSP, PIC, analog, FW, and hardware.
- Translate oDVT findings into design changes (BOM, schematic, firmware defaults, mechanical fiber routing).
- Apply DFx (test, manufacture, reliability) to the optical design; not only a lab prototype.
- Develop and refine optical calibration sequences with FW/DSP, and support manufacturing optical test (yield, test time, DVT-to-production correlation) for the assigned drop.
- Own test plans, procedures, and reports for the assigned module/card drop; present them in release reviews.
- Run Python (or similar) scripts in the current automation framework; script fixes/updates as required.
- Work with firmware, hardware, and optics teams; collaborate with the cross-functional (XF) team to improve performance.
- Represent optical design, integration, and oDVT in XF meetings for your product drop.
Qualifications
Must-Have-skills
- Bachelor's, Master's in Optical Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Must have worked on optical line card/systems
- Must have at least 5-8 years of experience in testing and integration, particularly with optical transponders or related components.
- Ability to follow a design/test plan, troubleshoot bench issues, and communicate results clearly.
- Familiarity with optical characterization equipment and measurement techniques.
- Define calibration architecture and the manufacturing optical test strategy (yield, test time, DVT-to-production correlation).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex optical systems.
- Excellent communication
