Xpert: Senior Java/Scala Engineer

Role: Senior Java / Scala Engineer Location: Cape Town, Western Cape Engagement: Permanent/ Full Time Start: Immediate start required

Role Summary

Senior data engineering role working on large‑scale data migration and distributed data platforms. You’ll design, build, and run production‑grade data pipelines while providing technical leadership across critical data initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver large‑scale data migration and transformation solutions
• Build and operate scalable batch and streaming data pipelines
• Implement data quality, validation, and lineage controls
• Lead production upgrades (e.g. JDK, Apache Spark)
• Ensure strong testing, monitoring, and observability
• Own data solutions end to end, from design to production support
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship

Essential Skills & Experience

• 8+ years’ experience in data engineering or backend engineering
• Strong experience with either Java or Scala as a primary language
• Proven experience building large-scale ETL/ELT and data pipelines
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed systems
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, Databricks)
• Exposure to Kubernetes-based workloads
• Strong understanding of data architecture, security, and compliance
