A Senior Equipment Operator position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Street Operations Division. The selected candidate will work in the Potholes Sector, which is responsible for performing permanent pothole repairs throughout the city. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience performing pothole repairs, including properly squaring and preparing the pothole, removing debris, applying tack, placing fresh asphalt, and properly compacting the repair to ensure a durable and sustainable finish. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area and documenting completed repairs by taking photographs that clearly demonstrate the quality and sustainability of the repair from start to finish.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED with additional specialized training in pothole and asphalt repair operations
• Three (3) years of experience operating motorized or construction equipment used in street maintenance and roadway repairs
• Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class "A" or "B" at the time of hire based on assignment with no air brake restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:

• One (1) year of asphalt maintenance experience
• Traffic Control (MUTCD) and safety procedures
• Experience with power tools, hand tools, heavy equipment, and other tools related to concrete work and street maintenance

The Sr. Equipment Operator job responsibilities include:

• Operate on-road equipment, including operating a dump truck and/ or tractor trailer
• Operate heavy equipment such as pothole truck, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, and other various heavy equipment
• Pothole repair and maintenance
• Traffic Control (MUTCD) and safety procedures
• Knowledge and use of data entry systems such as VueWorks and/or work order management systems
• Work zone set up and job site safety
• Trains new crew members and monitors performance

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work — Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. working in extreme heat and cold and inclement weather.
