What you will do

Position Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated Welding Engineer to lead and optimize welding engineering activities for the manufacture of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, piping systems, and structural fabrication.

This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about welding technology, quality excellence, process innovation, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, QA/QC, and Project teams to ensure all welding operations meet the highest international quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Welding Engineering & Procedure Qualification:

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Standard Welding Procedures (SWP).
  • Ensure welding procedures comply with applicable ASME, API, PED, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support new product development through selection of appropriate welding techniques and qualification processes.

Quality Assurance & Inspection:

  • Ensure welding activities comply with project specifications and international quality standards.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams during inspection and testing activities.
  • Review weld quality and ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable codes.
  • Support NDT planning and interpretation including:
  • Liquid Penetrant Examination (LPE)
  • Magnetic Particle Examination (MPE)
  • Ultrasonic Examination (UT)
  • Radiographic Examination (RT)

Technical Support & Process Improvement:

  • Work closely with Design, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, and Project teams to resolve welding-related technical challenges.
  • Evaluate material weldability and recommend suitable welding processes and consumables.

Root Cause Analysis:

  • Investigate welding defects and non-conformities.

  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring quality issues.

Team Leadership & Development:

(Primarily applicable for Manager role)

  • Lead, mentor, and develop welding personnel.
  • Conduct welder qualification and certification programs.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Train teams on best welding practices, new technologies, and code requirements.

Equipment & Consumables Management:

  • Evaluate welding equipment and automation technologies.
  • Optimize welding consumables for quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Support consumable estimation, inventory management, and equipment maintenance planning.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare technical reports related to welding activities, inspections, and qualifications.
  • Maintain complete documentation for welding procedures, welder qualifications, inspections, and project records.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, statutory, and international code requirements.

Technical Expertise:

Candidates should possess strong hands-on knowledge of welding materials, processes, and international codes.

Experience with fabrication and welding of:

  • Carbon Steel (P1)
  • Cr-Mo Steels (P3, P4, P5)
  • Martensitic, Ferritic & Austenitic Steels (P6, P7, P8)
  • Stainless Steel:
  • SS304

  • SS321
  • SS410
  • Duplex & Super Duplex Stainless Steel
  • Inconel and other nickel-based alloys
  • Other exotic materials

Welding Processes:

Hands-on expertise in one or more of:

  • SMAW
  • GTAW (TIG)
  • GMAW (MIG)
  • FCAW
  • SAW
  • ESSC
  • Groove Welding
  • Weld Overlay

Experience with GTAW automation and welding of exotic materials will be considered a strong advantage.

  • PED Requirements

Preferred Experience and Education Qualification:

Preferred Experience

Welding Engineer:

  • Experience: 2–6 years
  • Experience in Oil & Gas, Process Equipment, Heavy Engineering, Energy, EPC, or Pressure Vessel manufacturing.

Welding Manager:

  • Experience: 8–15 years
  • Demonstrated experience leading welding engineering teams in heavy fabrication or process equipment manufacturing.

Educational Qualification:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or Welding Engineering
  • M.Tech in Welding or Metallurgical Engineering will be an added advantage.

Preferred Industry Background:

Candidates with experience in manufacturing or fabrication of the following equipment will be highly preferred:

  • Pressure Vessels
