Brandeis University is looking for a Custodian in Facilities Department.

## Essential Job Functions:

  • Clean, strip, polish building surfaces as directed.
  • Read, understand and carry out simple instructions in English.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with supervisors, fellow workers, department heads and other members of the campus community.
  • Follow simple oral instructions in English.
  • Work in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and from individuals and time deadlines.
  • Bend, stoop, lift and move furniture, shovel snow and remove trash weighing 30 pounds.
  • Work either independently or in a project team setting.
  • Organize responsibilities and tasks.
  • Receive and ship packages, luggage and supplies.
  • Set up rooms for conferences, lectures, and special events.
  • Respond to and clean up after emergencies and disasters.
  • Assist in the security and protection of facilities to include locking and unlocking exterior and interior doors.

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday; 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Hourly Rate: $26.95 + $1.70 shift differential, this is a 40-hour work week

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to clean, strip, polish building surfaces as directed.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions in English.
  • Ability to follow simple oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with supervisors, fellow workers, department heads and other members of the campus community.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and periodic stress from individuals and deadlines.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and move furniture, shovel snow and remove trash weighing 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently either independently or in a project team setting.
  • Ability to organize responsibilities and tasks weekly to perform them efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to respond to and clean up after emergencies and disasters.
  • Ability to perform other related tasks as required.

Job Location (Place(s) where work is performed): Inside campus buildings and outside perimeter of buildings.

Equipment (Machines, devices, tools, etc., used in job performance): Floor buffers, vacuums of all types, wet/vacuums, automatic walk-behind and riding floor scrubbers, pressure washers, 44 gallon trash containers, snow shovels, ice chippers, brooms, mops, pails with ringers, chemicals including but not limited to: ammonia, bleach, germicide/disinfectant, floor stripper, wax, ice melt, and metal polish.
