The Labour and Employee Relations Specialist, Discovery and Medical (D&M) – UK and Ireland will take ownership of employee relations activity in the D&M business by providing clear and balanced advise that aligns with both legal requirements and D&M business priorities. The role plays an important role in maintaining consistency in employee relations casework related matters, reducing employment risk and strengthening People Leader capabilities across the D&M business.

The D&M businesses develops, and supplies products, technologies and services used by scientists, diagnostic laboratories, healthcare providers and medical manufacturers. Its portfolio supports activities ranging from basic scientific research and protein analysis through to diagnostics, genomics, laboratory filtration and medical manufacturing applications.

Reporting to the Senior People Partner, Discovery and Medical for the UK and Ireland, this role is responsible for all Labour and Employee Relations matters across the D&M UK manufacturing sites (Newquay and Cardiff), as well as non-manufacturing associates within the D&M businesses.

The role is an onsite role based at either our Newquay or Cardiff site.

What you will do:

  • Employee Relations Casework: managing a wide range of Level 1 and Level 2 employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and absence matters, ensuring they are handled fairly, consistently and in line with employment law and company policy. Providing clear, practical advice to our People Leaders, escalating complex or high-risk cases to the Senior Employee Relations Partner where appropriate, whilst keeping up to date with changes in employment law and ensuring advice reflects current best practice.
  • Employee Relations Priorities: partnering with People Leaders and the Senior People Partner for D&M to review people plans, data on employee relations casework, and identify priorities across absence, performance, training and employee relations.
  • Training and Development: coaching and developing People Leaders to build confidence in managing people issues and applying company policies consistently.
  • Policy and Documentation Development: reviewing and updating HR policies, templates and documentation to ensure they remain compliant with current employment legislation.

Who you are:

  • Prior experience in an employee relations or HR advisory role and be confident managing a varied caseload independently, advising managers on complex ER matters
  • Strong understanding of UK employment law and employee relations best practice.
  • Ability to assess risk and provide balanced, commercially focused recommendations.
  • Experience partnering with operational stakeholders to support people initiatives
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Expected travel to other sites in the United Kingdom, as required

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • CIPD qualification, or progress towards one, would be advantageous.
