ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald’s Northern Ontario team is growing! If you are committed to excellence in cleaning and facility care, then you should join our team of dedicated professionals providing high-quality cleaning services. We are building a pool of reliable, detail-oriented Commercial Cleaners to support various shifts and schedules. As a Commercial Cleaner, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards across designated areas. This includes routine cleaning, sanitization, and scheduled deep cleaning tasks. Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and waste removal.
- Complete deep cleaning tasks such as washing interior and exterior windows, interior walls and ceilings.
- Change overhead light bulbs and clean light fixtures.
- Sanitize restrooms, kitchens, and high-touch surfaces.
- Monitor and replenish dispensers as required.
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Manage routine upkeep of exterior areas, including garbage pickup in green spaces and parking lots.
- Complete non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders.
- Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
- Follow strict protocols for cleaning in secure environments.
- Report maintenance issues, damage, vandalism or safety hazards promptly to the Team Lead.
- Complete pre-job hazard assessments, cleaning checklists, refusal logs, and other paperwork as required.
- Adhere to company policies and security procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in commercial or industrial cleaning preferred.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance (mandatory).
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks (lifting, bending, crouching, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling and rotating for extended periods).
- Able to perform repetitive motion tasks.
- Must have the ability to lift 50lbs.
- Comfortable with working overhead and working from a ladder.
- Comfortable wearing steel toe work boots during their shift.
- Comfortable doing medical grade cleaning, working with blood borne pathogens and hazardous substances such as lead.
- Comfortable using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as N90 masks, half mask respirators, rubber gloves, and/or disposable coveralls.

WORKING HOURS
- Minimum 40 hours / week
- Monday to Friday – Day Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM).
- Monday to Friday – Afternoon Shift (1:30 PM – 10:00 PM).
- Occasional weekends and overtime may be required.

Individuals who successfully complete the interview process and do not already hold a valid security clearance will be sponsored for Secret Security Clearance. To obtain a Secret Security Clearance from the Government of Canada, applicants must undergo a comprehensive 10-year background check. This includes financial and criminal record checks, as well as a security assessment conducted by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Applicants will be required to provide detailed information covering the past 10 years, including employment, education, and residency history. For this reason, continuous residency in Canada for the last 10 years is a mandatory requirement.
The expected hourly rate for this role is $22.79. The starting pay rate will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual discretionary bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
