Job Overview:
Job Summary
The OH AP 4 (Overhead Apprentice, Level 4) will assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution and transmission lines. This role involves working under direct supervision to learn and apply essential skills in a challenging outdoor environment, contributing to the safe and reliable delivery of power.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist journey-level linemen and higher-level apprentices in all aspects of overhead line construction, maintenance, and repair, including installing poles, stringing wire, framing poles, and connecting transformers.
- Operate and maintain various hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, and wire pullers.
- Learn and adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures, including proper grounding techniques, lockout/tagout, and arc flash protection.
- Perform climbing activities on utility poles and structures using approved safety equipment and techniques.
- Handle and manage materials, including loading and unloading trucks, organizing equipment, and maintaining a clean work area.
- Read and interpret basic schematics, blueprints, and work orders to understand project requirements.
- Participate in daily job briefings and safety meetings, contributing to a culture of safety.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other personnel.
- Work in various weather conditions and be available for emergency call-out and overtime as needed.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Lineman Apprentice program (Level 3 or equivalent experience) is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to work safely at heights and in varying weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of electrical principles and safety standards is a plus.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement is required.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Strong commitment to safety and a willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home as required by project needs.
