Employer description
The Business Services Consultant helps collision repair customers improve operational and financial performance through practical consulting, assessments, training, and ongoing support. Drawing on extensive hands-on collision repair operating experience and current industry knowledge, this role identifies customer needs and translates them into practical recommendations that strengthen performance, improve execution, and support long-term customer success. This position works closely with Sales Leadership, Sales Excellence, Marketing, and other internal partners. The Business Services Consultant serves as a collision industry resource supporting the sales field efforts in customer retention, winning new business, and demonstrating the broader value of Sherwin-Williams solutions and services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver customer-focused consulting, training, and business services that improve collision center operational and financial performance.
- Conduct customer discovery and assess shop performance, including workflows, estimating, repair planning, production processes, KPI performance, and financial drivers.
- Translate assessment findings into clear recommendations, value propositions, and improvement plans aligned with customer goals and business priorities.
- Support implementation of customer improvement plans through coaching, follow-up, progress tracking, and practical business guidance.
- Facilitate classroom, virtual, and on-site learning experiences that translate collision repair business practices into practical actions for customers and field sales teams.
- Partner with Sales Leadership, field sales teams, Sales Excellence, Marketing, and other internal partners to align customer needs with the right programs, tools, services, and resources.
- Promotes the adoption of Sherwin-Williams solutions through the sales field and customer trainings and support.
- Support sales growth, customer retention, and customer value delivery by helping field teams communicate business impact and apply consulting resources effectively.
- Capture customer insights, industry trends, and field feedback to help improve Business Consulting Services programs, tools, content, and delivery models.
- Manage multiple customer engagements, program priorities, travel commitments, and timelines with clear communication and consistent follow-through.
- Build strong relationships with collision center leaders, field sales teams, cross-functional partners, and leadership stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of combined collision industry experience and automotive refinish professional experience. Equivalent experience may be considered in place of a degree, with three years of relevant experience counted for each year of college education not completed.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in collision center operations, with demonstrated knowledge of modern shop workflows, estimating, repair planning, KPI management, financial performance drivers, customer business priorities, and emerging technologies in the collision repair industry.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, sales consulting, customer consulting, operations, or a related field-based commercial role within the automotive refinish, coatings, or collision repair industry.
- Proven public-speaking and classroom-facilitation experience, with the ability to confidently deliver full-day classes, workshops, webinars, and executive-level presentations to both internal and external audiences.
- Ability to independently research, develop, update, and deliver training programs that reflect current collision-repair practices, emerging industry trends, customer needs, and business priorities.
- Experience supporting sales growth, customer retention, customer value delivery, and business improvement initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customer engagements, program priorities, travel commitments, and timelines.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills, with the ability to engage customers, field teams, large audiences, and leadership stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze operational and financial information, identify performance gaps, and translate findings into practical recommendations and action plans.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and related business tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Operations, or related fields.
- Collision repair leadership role, responsible for all aspects of the shop operations and performance.
- Experience working for an Independent or Dealership MSO in a leadership position.
- Experience developing educational content, training materials, tools, or resources for the collision repair industry.
- Experience applying structured consulting, coaching, or training methods to improve collision center performance.
- Experience with Direct Repair Program relationships, insurer requirements, estimate quality, billable labor and materials capture, and operational performance reviews.
- Experience supporting or managing OEM certification programs, certification requirements, and performance standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of industry certifications such as I-CAR, ASE, OEM certifications, Lean/Six Sigma, coaching, consulting, training, and/or leadership certifications.
- Experience using collision industry software solutions, including CCC ONE, CCC Workflow, or other body shop management systems.
- Experience with QuickBooks, BusinessWorks, or similar accounting/bookkeeping systems is a plus.
Travel Requirements
- Frequent travel required, up to 75% based on business need, to support customer engagements, training programs, consulting assignments, and business initiatives.
