Employer description
SpaceXAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
SpaceXAI is building and operating one of the world’s largest AI training campuses in Memphis, including Colossus and site facilities that support it. As a Facilities Technician, you are the hands-on crew that keeps offices, support buildings, and grounds in exceptional working condition.
This role performs building and grounds maintenance: plumbing and toilet repairs, building HVAC, basic electrical and transformers, carpentry, painting, and general break/fix. You will run work tickets, complete preventive maintenance, and support moves, events, and vendor work across an assigned area of the campus. This is facilities maintenance—not data center rack cooling or CUP operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine building maintenance, including troubleshooting and repair of plumbing, HVAC, electrical/transformers, and carpentry requests.
- Conduct maintenance of assigned interior and exterior areas, including painting, patching walls, replacing ceiling/flooring tiles and carpet, fixtures, and roofing systems as assigned.
- Perform inspections and repairs to walls, floors, installed fixtures, doors/hardware, and building envelope.
- Respond to work tickets for leaks, HVAC issues, electrical problems, and general break/fix; complete preventive maintenance on assigned assets.
- Aid janitorial and site staff with general support, including moving furniture and equipment, disposing of construction waste, and set-up and tear-down of special event areas.
- Support campus-wide operations and maintenance programs as assigned by facilities leadership.
- Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts when needed.
- Open, track, and resolve electronic work tickets in the site work-order system.
- Adhere to proper safety guidelines at all times.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- 2+ years of experience with facilities maintenance.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in construction, equipment maintenance, and tenant improvements.
- Experience with plumbing systems, drains, lift stations, sewer machines, and pumps.
- Experience with building HVAC troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience with basic electrical maintenance, including building electrical and transformers.
- Experience with carpentry maintenance, including drywall installation and/or repair, window replacement, cabinet/countertop replacement, painting/texturing (interior and exterior), and door/hardware installation.
- Ability to read instructions and basic floor plans or blueprints.
- Experience with work-order or project tracking software, MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Self-motivated; works well with others and autonomously.
- Safety training and use of forklifts, scissor lifts, and fall protection equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Based at the Memphis, TN campus.
- Able to lift 35 lbs. unassisted.
- Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
- Able to work at elevated heights, including the use of ladders and lifts for building and roof work.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and non-standard schedules as required.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation as assigned for building emergencies.
