The Automation Engineer will be responsible for creating technical design packages, project scope of work documents, load lists, cause and effect documentation for battery and well pad PLCs and optimizing standard electrical engineering drawings. This position requires strong project management skills. This position involves supporting greenfield and brownfield assets. This position should be willing to learn new software and processes, solve complex problems, maintain high-quality work, and work autonomously. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing and nurturing co-worker relations and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and applicable industry codes and standards (API, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70/70E, ISA)
- Develop technical design packages for facilities and well pads, including PLC/panel design, cable schedules, grounding, device selection, and cause-and-effect documentation
- Support and optimize standard electrical and automation engineering drawings and specifications
- Manage and support the arc flash program
- Provide automation and electrical support for greenfield and brownfield assets, including reliability improvements and failure investigation
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to align projects with drilling, completions, and power generation needs
- Identify and communicate risks impacting production schedules to leadership
- Manage capital projects, including AFEs, bid documentation, budgets, forecasts, and cost transparency
- Track project estimates, actuals, cash flow, and financial KPIs
- Support training initiatives and stay current with emerging automation technologies
- Foster strong working relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders while working independently and autonomously
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Electrical & Automation
- Advanced Allen-Bradley Automation Knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with and configuring RTU & EFM Software Packages and Systems
- Adaptable, trustworthy, and proactive—able to solve complex problems, maintain high-quality work, and collaborate effectively across teams. Strong communication, relationship-building, and a constructive mindset are essential, along with the ability to work independently and continuously learn.
