Description of Work

•This position is charged with daily and monthly reconciliation of all cash and deposit accounts for the Highway Fund, Trust Fund, Property Tax, Ferry Capital Fund, and Turnpike Authority. The accountant verifies and processes daily cash transactions and journal entries and maintains electronic/paper-supporting documentation. •Reconciling specific general ledger accounts daily and monthly. •This position is also responsible for preparing and reviewing specific financial statement exhibits as well as other reports assigned by management. •At all times the accountant is expected to follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Cash Management Policy as mandated by Office of State Controller and meet multiple daily deadlines.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC14 $52,592 - $92,036
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) practices.
- Knowledge of current accounting and financial management systems.
- Experience interpreting and applying complex Federal and State fiscal regulations.
- Experience in using accounting judgement and theory to independently resolve fiscal issues, provide technical guidance, and present results of analysis to program administrators.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance, public administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework; and two years of professional accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting. financial statements and reports; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
