Estimator - Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals
Trueline, an established commercial contractor with in-house steel fabrication capabilities and longstanding relationships throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth market, is seeking a Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals Estimator to join their team in Dallas, Texas. This is a dedicated estimating role for someone who understands the full cost structure of small to midsize steel packages and wants to take ownership of estimating while helping grow an established fabrication operation.
What You'll Do as the Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals Estimator:
- Review structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for miscellaneous metals and smaller structural steel packages
- Prepare complete estimates for fabrication and installation work
- Calculate material quantities, steel costs, shop labor, fabrication hours, and production requirements
- Estimate field labor, erection, equipment, delivery, and installation costs
- Price stairs, handrails, guardrails, canopies, bollards, gates, enclosures, and other fabricated steel components
- Identify project conditions that may affect fabrication, erection, access, equipment needs, or field productivity
- Solicit and incorporate vendor and subcontractor pricing when needed
- Prepare complete bid packages, proposals, clarifications, and final pricing
- Manage multiple active bids and deadlines
- Maintain accurate historical pricing and estimating information
- Coordinate with ownership, fabrication personnel, and internal operations teams
- Help increase bid volume and support the continued growth of the steel fabrication business
- Focus fully on estimating without simultaneously managing projects in the field
Must-Haves as the Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals Estimator:
- Previous estimating experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or steel fabrication
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication methods and cost drivers
- Experience estimating miscellaneous metals and fabricated steel packages
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
- Ability to read and understand project specifications
- Strong knowledge of steel material quantities and pricing
- Understanding of shop labor and fabrication productivity
- Understanding of erection, installation, equipment, and field labor costs
- Ability to independently take an opportunity from drawings through final bid
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and bid deadlines
- Stable work history and interest in a long-term opportunity
- Ability to work onsite in Dallas Monday-Friday
Nice-to-Haves as the Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals Estimator:
- Experience with a miscellaneous metals contractor
- Experience with a steel fabricator
- Experience with a specialty subcontractor
- Commercial stair and rail estimating experience
- Experience estimating canopies, bollards, gates, and enclosures
- Smaller structural steel package experience
- Commercial education project experience
- Experience coordinating fabrication and field installation pricing
- Experience developing shop labor assumptions
- Experience with erection and equipment pricing
- Familiarity with estimating software used in steel fabrication
- Existing knowledge of Dallas-Fort Worth steel suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors

- Base salary of $80,000-$110,000 or more, depending on experience
