Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace is seeking a hands-on Testing Specialist to support the validation of advanced aerospace electrical-power generation and conversion products. Based at the EPISCenter in Dayton, Ohio—the headquarters for Aerospace Power Engineering—this role supports development activities for technologies such as hybrid-electric aircraft, military platforms, and silicon-carbide (SiC) power systems.

The EPISCenter includes a 155,000-square-foot laboratory with seven high-power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, electronics and rapid-prototype labs, and real-time simulation capabilities. This is an opportunity for a technically capable test professional to work directly with advanced electrical and mechanical systems in a large-scale engineering test environment.

Job Description

The Testing Specialist performs laboratory and field validation testing, inspections, and data acquisition in support of aerospace electrical-power products and services. This role is responsible for setting up and operating test equipment, building test rigs and instrumentation systems, executing approved test procedures, collecting high-quality test data, and supporting troubleshooting activities.

Working with engineering, EHS, quality, planning, and materials teams, the Testing Specialist helps ensure tests are executed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable procedures and technical documentation. The successful candidate brings strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, practical troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to safe, disciplined lab operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute laboratory and field validation tests, inspections, and data-acquisition activities supporting aerospace electrical-power generation and conversion products.
• Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain test equipment, test cells, instrumentation, and data-acquisition systems.
• Support the design and construction of test facilities, test rigs, instrumentation systems, and test software.
• Read, understand, and strictly follow test plans, test procedures, equipment operating procedures, quality-control documents, maintenance manuals, and shop manuals.
• Partner with engineering teams on test setup, test execution, troubleshooting, and documentation of test results.
• Use sound electrical and mechanical judgment to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within established procedures.
• Collaborate with EHS, quality, planning, materials, and engineering teams to meet site safety, quality, operational, and continuous-improvement objectives.
• Collect, organize, inspect, and communicate accurate test data and observations to support product design and validation decisions.
• Support safe and efficient operation of high-power laboratory equipment and test environments.
• Work independently within established guidance and escalate complex issues to senior team members as appropriate.
• Be available to support testing outside regular first-shift hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as program needs require.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant technical experience in a testing, laboratory, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, aerospace, automotive, military, or similar environment.
• Hands-on experience operating, setting up, maintaining, or troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read and follow detailed technical procedures, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and safety requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely and make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced hands-on environment.
• Ability to support testing outside standard first-shift hours and on weekends when needed.

Desired Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Familiarity with electrical-power systems used in commercial or military aircraft.
• Experience with high-power electrical equipment, power conversion, generators, motors, inverters, or power-distribution systems.
• Experience with data-acquisition systems, sensors, instrumentation, test automation, or test-software development.
• Experience designing, building, or modifying test rigs, test fixtures, instrumentation systems, or lab test setups.
• Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, with a demonstrated interest in continued technical learning.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document test work clearly and accurately.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.

They are comfortable setting up tests, connecting instrumentation, operating equipment, capturing data, following detailed procedures, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

They bring a safety-first mindset, strong electrical and mechanical fundamentals, and practical experience in a laboratory, test-cell, manufacturing, maintenance, field-service, or military environment. They collaborate well with engineers but can independently execute assigned work, recognize when an issue needs escalation, and maintain precise documentation throughout the test process.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
