Job Description Summary
The Lead Embedded Software Engineer will design, develop, integrate, and verify embedded software for custom avionics data storage and transfer products running on custom hardware platforms. This role requires strong technical judgment and hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, requirements, design, implementation, hardware/software integration, verification, and documentation.
Job Description
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in low-level embedded software development using C, embedded Linux and/or VxWorks, and has worked with device drivers, networking, file systems, multicore processors, multithreaded applications, and hardware integration in lab environments. This role also supports cross-functional systems engineering activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead embedded software development for Data Storage and Transfer avionics products.
- Contribute across the full development lifecycle, including:
- project planning
- software requirements development
- architecture and detailed design
- implementation and integration
- software configuration management
- formal verification testing
- design and certification documentation
- Develop software architecture and implement major software components, features, or subsystems.
- Integrate embedded software with custom hardware platforms and support bring-up, debug, and lab test activities.
- Develop and troubleshoot low-level software including drivers, networking interfaces, communications protocols, and file-system-related functionality.
- Support system integration, verification, and validation activities for avionics products.
- Partner with systems, hardware, and test teams to resolve technical issues and deliver robust solutions.
- Support systems engineering lifecycle tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years of software design and development experience, or successful completion of the GE Edison Engineering Program.
- Strong C programming skills for embedded software applications.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- This position requires U.S. citizenship status.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying embedded Linux and/or VxWorks on custom processing platforms.
- Experience integrating software with hardware platforms and device drivers.
- Experience with multicore and multithreaded embedded systems.
- Experience with ARM processors and AMD/Xilinx Zynq UltraScale MPSoC platforms.
- Experience with Intel Xeon processors in embedded applications.
- Experience with file systems, data servers, network-attached storage, avionics computing devices, and solid-state storage.
- Experience with Ethernet networking products, communications drivers, and related protocols.
- Experience developing embedded cybersecurity features such as user authentication, key management, and encryption.
- Experience with DOORS, RTC, and standard Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience developing software in accordance with DO-178B.
- Experience using AI tools and methods to support software development and verification.
- Knowledge of data storage and transfer systems or related avionics products.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and lab debugging skills.
