Position Purpose:
Driver Trainers are responsible for training new delivery drivers in accordance with company policies and procedures and administering behind the wheel road tests. Driver Trainers also serve as a resource to drivers throughout their employment journey. The Driver Trainer is the first call for all driver-related incidents, customer issues, vehicle & equipment issues. The Driver Trainer also manages drivers’ meal break communications, absences/tardies, and finds additional drivers to cover routes as needed. The Driver Trainer supports the Operations Manager in defining and communicating daily routes to drivers.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate training classes for newly hired eCommerce drivers according to the Driver Training Program.
- Facilitate compliance training.
- Train and coach drivers on proper driving techniques, including defensive driving using the Smith System method.
- Administer written and driving related road test.
- Conduct check rides to assess driving performance.
- Competent in Route Planner, Verizon Connect and Mobile Link internal systems.
- Review all daily AM/PM TMS/routing schedules by store to determine sufficient driver coverage and schedules confirming resources to fulfill orders on time.
- Daily TMS/routing scheduling across 3-5 shifts and confirm/communicate schedules with an average of 3-5 drivers per store. Manage situations and communicate to drivers regarding start and end times, customer delivery expectations, order changes and availability issues.
- Partner with Operations Managers, Store Directors, Home Shopping Department Managers, IT to minimize delays, errors, and unforeseen delivery issues as they occur.
- Problem solve and identify why items are missing, damaged or timelines delayed and work to update management, customers and drivers.
- Troubleshoot driver calls regarding driving incidents, vehicle & equipment issues, and finding additional drivers to cover routes due to sick calls and call offs.
- Responsible for coordinating truck maintenance and truck moves for area to ensure proper fleet performance and optimization.
- eCommerce projects / duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The following describes the general qualifications and physical, sensory, and mental abilities normally associated with performing the essential functions of this position:
- High school graduate
- 1+ year logistics experience preferably large teams in distributed locations a plus.
- 1+ year retail operations experience, preferably in retail grocery.
- 1+ year facilitating training programs.
- Smith System Certification a plus.
- 1+ year experience driving a van or truck preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to think strategically and conceptually while managing details.
- Ability to work independently but also a strong team player.
- Must have the flexibility to work variety of shifts, days, evenings, and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license with a history of no suspension or at fault accident within the last three years, no DUI/DWI within the past seven years, and no more than one moving violation on driving record.
- Strong sense of urgency, business ethics, dependability and follow through.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following attempts to communicate the traditional physical demands associated with this position:
- Ability to lift from ground level to overhead
- Ability to carry and maneuver items weighing up to 50lbs
The pay range is $25.00 to 29.20 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (between 7-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
