Innovating a Better World
We're looking for an exceptional Principal Consultant – Design & Engineering to provide strategic technical leadership across some of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure and transformation programmes.
This is an opportunity to influence major investment decisions, shape future capability and work directly with senior industry leaders to deliver lasting outcomes.
The Opportunity
As a Principal Consultant, you will operate as a trusted technical advisor, bringing together engineering excellence, programme leadership and strategic consulting expertise.
You will work with senior client stakeholders to solve complex challenges, establish technical direction and ensure programmes deliver integrated operational capability, not simply engineering outputs.
This role combines technical authority with consultancy leadership. You will help clients navigate complexity, manage risk, make informed investment decisions and deliver sustainable long-term value.
The successful candidate will be recognised as a respected industry expert, capable of influencing executive level stakeholders while leading multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of complex programmes.
What You'll Do:
- Provide Strategic Technical Leadership
- Act as a senior technical authority across major client programmes and portfolios.
- Shape engineering strategies that align infrastructure investment with operational and business objectives.
- Provide independent technical challenge, advice and assurance to clients and programme leadership teams.
- Support programme mobilisation and establish effective governance and delivery frameworks.
Drive Technical Excellence and Assurance:
- Lead engineering assurance activities across the full project lifecycle.
- Establish governance, assurance and technical review processes.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Support robust decision-making through evidence-based technical assessment.
Deliver Integrated Programme Outcomes:
- Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges, interfaces and dependencies.
- Bring together designers, constructors, operators, supply chain partners and regulators to develop integrated solutions.
- Ensure consistency of engineering approaches, standards and technical decision-making across programmes.
Support Capability Transformation:
Working alongside senior client organisations, you will help shape the future of infrastructure, manufacturing and operational capability through areas such as:
- Manufacturing optimisation
- Industrialisation and modularisation
- Operational integration
- Asset performance improvement
- Digital engineering and information management
- Infrastructure transformation
Build Trusted Client Relationships:
- Develop strong relationships with senior client, supplier and regulatory stakeholders.
- Represent Frazer-Nash in strategic governance forums and executive-level discussions.
- Influence programme direction through clear communication of technical risks, opportunities and trade-offs.
- Support business growth through client development, bids and opportunity generation.
Lead and Develop People:
- Lead multidisciplinary teams of consultants, engineers and subject matter experts.
- Coach, mentor and develop future technical leaders.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, curiosity, innovation and technical excellence.
What We're Looking For:
We're interested in hearing from experienced technical leaders who can combine engineering expertise with strategic consulting capability.
You will typically have:
- Significant experience delivering major infrastructure, engineering or transformation programmes.
- Experience in senior technical leadership positions such as Chief Engineer, Technical Director, Engineering Director or equivalent.
- A strong understanding of engineering governance, assurance and technical risk management.
- Experience working within complex stakeholder environments involving clients, suppliers, regulators and delivery partners.
- The ability to influence and advise senior executive stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of programme delivery challenges.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional recognition.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
If you are a recognised technical leader who wants to shape complex programmes, influence strategic decisions and help create a better future, we'd love to hear from you.
Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
