Job Description

Support the operation, maintenance, problem solving, and repair of sterilization equipment, facility systems, and critical utilities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for maintaining sterilization equipment and associated support systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, steam, vacuum, nitrogen, chilled water, and hot water systems. The Maintenance Technician partners with production and engineering teams to improve equipment uptime, support preventive maintenance programs, and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards.

Schedule: Must be available to work within operating hours of 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Actual scheduled shift will be assigned based on business needs. Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, maintain, fix, repair, and support sterilization equipment and associated utility systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on sterilization equipment, facility systems, and production support equipment.
  • Fix and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, steam, evacuated systems, nitrogen supply, cooled water, and heated water systems.
  • Support the startup, operation, and monitoring of critical utilities and process equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns, determine root causes, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities including inspections, equipment adjustments, lubrication, part replacement, and system testing.
  • Coordinate and work alongside contractors and vendors during specialized projects, installations, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure work is completed in accordance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support facility upkeep through general maintenance activities, including plumbing, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, and general building repairs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Follow FDA cGMP requirements and all BD safety, environmental, and quality policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience solving and repairing industrial equipment, facility systems, or manufacturing support equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and operating procedures.
  • Basic digital literacy and experience documenting maintenance activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of a maintenance role, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working in industrial environments.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation as required.

Preferred

  • Experience in a manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, sterilization, or regulated production environment.
  • Experience maintaining boilers, steam systems, vacuum systems, chilled water systems, compressed gases, or other critical utilities.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and equipment reliability practices.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, welding, and fabrication equipment.
  • Familiarity with FDA cGMP requirements and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with contractors, vendors, and multi-functional teams to support facility and equipment maintenance.
