Employer description
IT Administrator
Part-time, Hybrid (minimum 2 days in office)
About Us:
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” - Nelson Mandela
We believe that even the biggest problems can be broken down into small, achievable steps. Poverty and access to justice are part of the same problem. And we’re solving this problem together. At Open Door Legal (ODL), we’re pioneering the country’s first system of universal access to civil legal representation to dramatically reduce poverty and prove that the law really can belong to all of us. We’ve grown 150x in 10 years, and in the next 2 years, we hope to finish scaling across San Francisco. To achieve this goal, we’ve created an award-winning and best-in-class legal aid organization full of passionate, motivated, gritty, thoughtful, and team-oriented people. We believe that injustice is the heart of poverty, and we're looking for someone to join us in ensuring justice for all.
Overview of Position:
At Open Door Legal, we are creating the first digital platform designed to deliver universal access to civil legal representation. Our staff cannot serve clients if their laptops, phones, and accounts do not work. The IT Administrator is the person who makes sure they do. Are you passionate about dramatically reducing poverty and justice through technology and human services? Do you thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment? Do you love a challenge? We want to talk to you!
This is a part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week) responsible for the day-to-day operational backbone of ODL's technology: resolving staff IT tickets across our third-party platforms and hardware, provisioning accounts and devices to new staff so they are productive on day one, offboarding departing staff cleanly and securely, and keeping our device inventory and access permissions in good order. This role sits on the Innovation and Strategy team and works closely with the Talent and Culture team, Finance team, and outside vendors.
This is a hands-on, service-oriented role. The right person is unfazed by a printer that will not connect, meticulous about access and offboarding, and genuinely enjoys making a colleague's bad tech day go away.
Responsibilities:
- Own the staff IT help desk. Triage, resolve, and escalate all incoming IT tickets covering hardware and our third-party platforms.
- Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, printing, conferencing, and account issues for staff across all offices, remotely and in person.
- Serve as the first point of contact with third-party vendors and support desks.
- Provision all accounts and ensure new employees, interns, volunteers, and contractors have the correct accounts, licenses, permission, and equipment.
- Deliver a short IT orientation for every new staff member.
- Offboard all departing employees, interns, volunteers, and contractors. Ensure their accounts are disabled, licenses are reclaimed, data is transferred to the correct own, and equipment is returned and wiped.
- Manage the hardware lifecycle. Procure, image, deploy, track, repair, and securely retire equipment across all ODL offices, maintaining an accurate asset inventory.
- Maintain access and security hygiene, and keep IT documentation current.
- Enforce MFA, password manager, and device encryption standards, and follow up with staff who are out of compliance.
- Maintain runbooks and a self-serve knowledge base so common issues do not require a ticket.
Requirements:
- 1+ years in an IT support, help desk, or systems administrator role.
- Hands-on experience administering accounts and permissions in at least one major platform (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Okta, or similar).
- Comfort troubleshooting Mac and Windows hardware, mobile devices, printers, and video conferencing equipment.
- Demonstrated care with access, permissions, and confidential data. This role touches systems that hold client information.
- Strong written communication and a service mindset. You can explain a fix to a non-technical colleague without condescension.
- Detail and process oriented, with the discipline to complete a checklist the same way every time.
- Self-starter who can work independently within limited scheduled hours and knows when to escalate.
- Commitment to ODL's mission of universal access to legal representation.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Salesforce user administration or a nonprofit CRM.
- Experience with device management (MDM), asset management tooling, or a ticketing system such as Jira Service Management, Freshservice, or Zendesk.
- Experience supporting a distributed, multi-office organization.
- Experience in a nonprofit or legal services environment.
- Having lived a significant period of your life in San Francisco proper
- Experience at an organization reducing poverty and/or increasing justice
Starting compensation is $36.78 to $44.47 hourly based on experience
Perks:
- ODL makes healthcare expenditures on your behalf into the SF City Option program. You can learn more directly at sfcityoption.org/sfmra
- Generous paid time off
- Generous paid parental leave
- Flexible work hours
- We are a fun and hard-working office with best-in-class technology solutions for anyone who’s passionate about making a meaningful and measurable difference.
