About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will lead independent, cutting-edge research within the Barecka Lab, focused on the electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide to ethanol. Supported by an externally funded grant, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of transformative technologies. The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for designing, planning, and executing experiments that drive the project's scientific and technological progress, with a strong emphasis on timely advancement toward scale-up and commercialization. In addition, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the preparation of quarterly progress reports, actively engage in discussions with project sponsors, and play a visible role in communicating research outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • Knowledge of electrochemistry fundamentals
  • Proficiency in performing electrochemical tests
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry tools such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Mass Spectrometry (MS)
  • Proficiency in academic writing, time management, and communication
  • High level of scientific independence, initiative, and accountability
  • Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, by employment start date.

Preferred

  • Experience operating electrochemical flow reactors, preferably for CO2 reduction; candidates with proficiency in reactor modeling will also be considered in lieu of this experience

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Design, plan, and execute independent research experiments in consultation with Prof. Barecka; complete research independently and communicate progress in regular meetings.
  • Generate and analyze experimental data in support of the project's scientific and technological goals.
  • Read and review literature relevant to the project scope.
  • Communicate results in laboratory group meetings, scientific conferences, and publications.
  • Prepare progress reports, presentations, manuscripts, and patent applications.
  • Participate in professional development activities including workshops, seminars, and courses.

Expected Hiring Range:

$60,315.00 - $85,192.50
