ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director, Operations and Sustainable Resource Development provides executive leadership across regional hard rock quarries, sand and gravel pits, aggregate processing operations, and recycling sites within the East and Great Lakes Region. Based at the Middleton, MA office, this role drives operational excellence, long-term reserves and mine planning, capital project execution, financial optimization (cost-per-ton and marginal contribution), and progressive environmental stewardship.

WHAT YOU'LL ACOMPLISH

  • Operational & Financial Excellence: Direct multi-site P&L, operating budgets, and CapEx

programs to maximize production throughput, plant uptime, yield, and financial optimization (cost-per-ton and marginal contribution).

  • Safety & Compliance: Champion an uncompromising safety culture by enforcing strict

MSHA/OSHA compliance, risk assessments, and plant integrity programs.

  • Sustainable Resource & Mine Planning: Oversee subsurface exploration, geological

modeling, reserve estimation, and long-term extraction plans to ensure asset longevity.

  • Direct environmental sustainability initiatives, including overburden stripping schedules,

water recirculation projects, dust suppression, progressive pit reclamation, and permitting processes.

  • Strategic Growth & Capital Management: Develop ROI business cases and manage major

capital expenditures (such as crusher replacements, wash towers, and plant automation). Partner with sales and logistics to streamline aggregate transport and participate in M&A due diligence.

  • Leadership & Development: Provide mentorship and strategic direction for regional

operations management, plant managers, quarry superintendents, and production engineers.

  • Operational & Financial Leadership:
  • Direct multi-site P&L, operating budgets, and CapEx programs to maximize

production throughput, plant uptime, and yield.

  • Champion an uncompromising safety culture, enforcing strict MSHA/OSHA

compliance, risk assessments, and plant integrity programs.

  • Sustainable Resource Development:
  • Assist in overseeing subsurface exploration, overburden stripping

schedules, geological modeling, reserve estimation, and long-term extraction plans to ensure long-term asset longevity.

  • Lead local, state, and federal permitting processes (air quality, stormwater, and

extraction permits).

  • Strategic Growth & Capital Management:
  • Assist in developing ROI business cases and in managing major CapEx

investments (crusher replacement, wash towers, plant automation).

  • Partner with regional sales and logistics teams to balance inventory and

streamline aggregate transport modes.

  • Participate in operational due diligence and site evaluations for potential M&A

opportunities.

  • Leadership & Labor Relations:
  • Provide mentorship and strategic direction for region operations management,

plant managers, quarry superintendents, and production engineers.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Business Administration (Master’s degree or MBA preferred), or equivalent. Required Work Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive operational leadership experience in heavy construction materials, aggregate processing, or hard rock quarrying. Required Technical Skills: Comprehensive understanding of MSHA regulations, blast design, mineral processing circuits, fixed asset automation, and environmental permitting.

Additional Requirements:

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment, including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
