Job Overview:
Primoris T&D provides construction, maintenance, and engineering of electric Transmission, Distribution, and Substation infrastructure. Ancillary services include wireless telecommunication installation, environmental cleanup, project management, and storm restoration services.
The Project Manager II is responsible for managing medium to large scale transmission and substation construction projects from initiation through closeout. This role provides leadership in project planning, execution, cost control, schedule management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication while ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with customer and company standards.
The Project Manager II operates with limited supervision and serves as a key liaison between internal departments, contractors, customers, and business leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of multiple transmission and substation projects with full responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance.
- Develop and manage detailed project schedules, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and performance metrics.
- Direct cross-functional teams including procurement, construction, project controls, and finance to achieve project objectives.
- Manage complex project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement corrective actions to maintain project performance.
- Oversee contractor performance, subcontractor coordination, and vendor relationships to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Review, negotiate, and approve project change orders, claims, and contract modifications.
- Monitor project financial performance, including earned value, forecasting accuracy, cost controls, and variance analysis.
- Lead project status meetings and provide executive-level reports on project progress, risks, and financial health.
- Serve as the primary customer interface for assigned projects and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor Project Managers I, Project Coordinators, and other project team members.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and incorporate lessons learned into future project execution strategies.
- Lead project closeout activities, including turnover documentation, contract reconciliation, final billing, and post-project reviews.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Physical Sciences, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of project management experience in utility, transmission, substation, energy, infrastructure, or heavy construction projects.
- Experience leading cross-functional project teams and managing customer relationships.
- PMP certification is a plus but not required.
- Advanced proficiency with project management tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Power BI, and Excel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in construction project management methodologies, cost control, scheduling, forecasting, and contract administration.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of utility transmission and substation project execution.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets and forecasts.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive project success across cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with periodic field visits to project sites.
- May require travel to job locations and client meetings.
- Must be able to work in both office and construction environments.
