GE HealthCare Mechanical Engineering Co-ops work on a variety of assignments with responsibilities and hands-on involvement in product design cycles. There will be project-oriented assignments where a manager and mentor are assigned for support. These positions will work primarily with Anesthesia products in our Patient Care Solutions - Life Supporting Systems business segment.
Job Description
Job Summary The LSS Mechanical Engineering Co-op will support the development and improvement of life supporting products (anesthesia and infant care), focusing on mechanical design, testing, and analysis within a regulated medical device environment. This role provides hands-on experience in the entire product lifecycle, contributing to patient safety and product reliability.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies for LSS products.
- Conduct CAD modeling and drafting using industry-standard software (e.g., Creo or equivalent).
- Perform mechanical analyses, including stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations, under supervision.
- Support the execution of design verification testing, including test fixture design and data collection.
- Analyze test data, generate reports, and present findings to engineering teams.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
## Basic Qualifications
- Demonstrated strong academic performance through relevant coursework, projects, research, leadership experiences, or other academic achievements.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering (with a mechanical emphasis).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong academic performance, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Proficiency in CAD software and experience with FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS).
- Previous co-op or internship experience in a relevant industry (medical devices, aerospace, etc.).
