Technical Project Manager – Maritime NAVCOM

Location: Barsbüttel, Hamburg area Industry: Maritime Technology, Satellite Communications and Systems Integration Employment: Permanent, full-time Working pattern: On-site for the first six months. Thereafter, up to six remote-working days per month, unless the role or project requires otherwise.

Important Eligibility Requirements:

Due to the nature of the end clients and projects, applicants must:

  • Be citizens of a NATO member state.
  • Have resided continuously in Germany for the past five years.
  • Be able to complete the relevant security and background checks.
  • Be available to work fully on-site in Barsbüttel during the first six months.

The Opportunity:

Our client operates within the satellite communications, maritime technology, systems integration, engineering and IT solutions industry, supporting customers across the maritime, enterprise, defence and government sectors.

They are looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to take ownership of complex NAVCOM projects from the early pre-sales stage through to delivery, handover and project closure.

You will coordinate engineering, field service and logistics teams while acting as the main technical point of contact for customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the complete project lifecycle, from pre-sales support and mobilisation through to delivery, handover and closure.
  • Support pre-sales activities, including project costings, bills of materials and technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, risk registers and implementation plans.
  • Coordinate teams across engineering, field service and logistics to ensure efficient delivery.
  • Act as the main technical contact for assigned projects.
  • Manage the resolution of technical and engineering issues.
  • Represent the organisation in customer, technical and commercial meetings.
  • Ensure internal service launches are documented, communicated and handed over effectively.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of through-life support processes and services.

Essential Experience and Capabilities:

  • Proven experience in technical project engineering, project management or a closely related delivery role.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite communications and maritime navigation and communication systems.
  • Experience with a relevant combination of systems such as radar, GMDSS, ECDIS, AIS, UHF/VHF, CCTV, TVRO, PABX/PAGA and other navigation equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working directly with technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • A highly organised and detail-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver against tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with standard office applications and project documentation tools.
  • Willingness to travel when required.

Desirable Experience:

  • A background in naval, maritime, defence or government-related projects.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Project.
  • Previous involvement in complex systems integration, vessel installation or maritime communications programmes.
