Job Description
The Industrial Equipment Engineering team is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide hands-on technical support for production, continuous improvement, testing, and new product development of industrial welding equipment.
This position serves as a key link between Engineering and Manufacturing, supporting troubleshooting, root cause investigations, product testing, prototype evaluation, corrective actions, and production issue resolution. The role works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Welding Application teams to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
The successful candidate will combine hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Welding Application teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing, field, and customer-reported issues.
- Support root cause investigations, issue containment, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
- Troubleshoot/diagnose electrical and electromechanical issues and support failure analysis
- Execute product performance, thermal, safety, reliability, and design validation testing.
- Set up test equipment, instrumentation, and test samples in support of engineering projects.
- Collect, document, and summarize test results in clear technical reports.
- Support product compliance and certification testing activities, including CSA, UL, CE, IEC, and related regulatory requirements.
- Build, modify, repair, and evaluate prototype and production units in support of product development, testing, and manufacturing investigations.
- Assist engineering teams with evaluation of product improvements, design changes, and corrective actions.
- Maintain equipment readiness, calibration records, work areas, and safe operating practices.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical systems.
- Experience using common electronic test and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting engineering product development, manufacturing, technical service, or quality activities.
- Experience supporting product safety and regulatory compliance testing.
- Familiarity with CSA, UL, IEC, CE, or similar product compliance standards.
- Familiarity with industrial power electronics and industrial equipment.
- Experience with industrial welding equipment or welding processes.
- Experience in creating technical reports and test documentation.
- Experience supporting root cause analysis and failure investigations.
- Experience working with data acquisition systems and electronic test instrumentation.
