Join Project Selborne, a landmark programme transforming Royal Navy training to deliver better-trained sailors to the frontline faster. As part of Capita's team at HMS Collingwood and other naval establishments across the UK, you'll play a vital role in delivering Navigational, Positional Data and basic Engineering training to Royal Navy personnel undertaking their Phase 3 career courses. Job Description:
🕒 Full time 37.5 hours a week (Term-time only – 45 weeks) 📍 HMS Collingwood 🔐 Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver Hands-On Technical Instruction: Teach practical and theoretical engineering modules covering navigational, radar, gyroscopic, and positional data systems, as well as foundational electro-mechanical principles.
- Shape & Modernise Learning: Adopt modern instructional methods and digital learning technologies (simulation, smart classroom tools, and blended learning) to keep technical courses dynamic, relevant, and engaging.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Actively review and refine course modules, using student feedback and performance data to improve instructional delivery and pass rates.
- Collaborate Across High-Performing Teams: Work alongside experienced instructors, military personnel, and civilian engineering specialists in a supportive, safety-conscious, and professional technical environment.
- Build Strong Stakeholder Confidence: Maintain professional working relationships with military and industry partners, acting as a trusted subject-matter mentor to students embarking on their technical careers.
What we’re looking for
Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications
- Solid Technical or Engineering Background: Practical experience maintaining, testing, or fault-finding on complex electro-mechanical, sensory, or data-driven systems. (This includes backgrounds in Marine Engineering, Avionics/Aerospace, Radar/Telecommunications, Commercial Maritime, Control Systems, or High-Reliability Technical Maintenance).
- Passion for Knowledge Sharing: A genuine interest in mentoring, coaching, or teaching others. Prior formal instructional experience is welcome, but a desire to transfer your practical technical skills to the next generation is essential
What Gives You an Advantage (Desirable – Not Essential)
- Teaching / Training Qualifications: Holding a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET/PTLLS) or equivalent.
- (Not held? No problem. If you bring the right technical experience and aptitude, we will fully fund and support you through your Level 3 teaching qualification and supervisory care certifications).
- Domain Experience: Prior experience within Defence, the Armed Forces (specifically Naval Weapon Engineering / Sensors), or commercial maritime and aviation operations.
- Familiarity with Regulated Safety Environments: Experience working within safety-critical engineering maintenance environments (e.g., MoD, aviation standards, rail, or offshore maritime).

This role is offered on a term time basis working 45 weeks per year, with non-working weeks taken 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and 3 weeks in August. The salary will therefore be pro rata’d and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
