Summary
Production Planner I is an entry-level position responsible for creating and maintaining efficient production schedules, ensuring that materials, resources, and labor are aligned to meet production goals and deadlines. In this role, you will ensure that materials, resources, and labor are aligned to support production activities while monitoring production progress and adjusting schedules as needed to address any delays or issues. You will collaborate with various departments, including procurement, manufacturing, engineering, and logistics, to coordinate production activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate raw materials to ensure everything is in place for production.
- Assists Purchasing with vendor control, timely receipt of material and vendor returns as needed.
- Route material throughout the inventory room and production areas and log the transactions.
- Sort, inspect, count and check all materials, finished and semi-finished parts.
- Assist with checking goods received against bills of lading, purchase orders or other documents to verify correctness of incoming shipments.
- Build production kits from bills of materials, enter the transactions, and maintain the necessary clerical records.
- Records movement of incoming and outgoing materials and supplies. Verifies accuracy of work performed.
- Assist with product picking for sales orders and parts to customers.
- Perform routine cycle count of warehouse material and yearly stock count.
- Brings discrepancies to the manager’s attention and provides adequate documents to correct the issue.
- Reviews backlog to determine materials shortages and capacity requirements to provide commitments feedback to customer.
- Support continuous improvement efforts that enhance efficiency, communication, and workflow.
- Manage inventory, work‑in‑process (WIP), lead times, and safety stock to align with current operational requirements to establish manufacturing lead times, validate material requirements, and identify capacity or supply gaps
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems to generate production orders, track material movements, and update production statuses.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure timely availability of raw materials, work in progress, and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Supply Chain, Operations Management, and/or Business Analytics OR equivalent of 1-3 years’ related experience in manufacturing facility or materials management.
- Knowledge of ERP or MRP system used for order management, inventory and production planning.
- Must maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures including those which govern the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Able to effectively communicate with other functional departments, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Sales departments.
- Possess effective organization and time management skills, be detail oriented, use good judgment, manage competing priorities for multiple projects and consistently meet all deadlines.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills, understanding of VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, tables, chart reporting, and data sorting.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Physical activities required to perform essential job functions:
Lift and carry up to 35 pounds routinely. Communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Write by hand and keyboard. Movement within office complex, manufacturing and in confined spaces throughout facility. Communicate by telephone and in person. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are needed for detail work, computer use, and the reading of drawings, and documents.

Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area.
